Useful Information for the Calendar Year of 2009-2010
Welcome Class of 2010 Parents and Students! I hope to see you back here for our early November meeting with financial aid expert Liz Hoagland from our CBO partner, The Door.
HAPPY SPRING!! This semester is full of new events, and as always, students, faculty, and parents need to be aware of procedures to make the entry into college a success. Parents and Students need to be aware of: - The Financial Aid application: FAFSA - Finishing
Students who are applying to more selective colleges (NYU, Wesleyan, Carnegie Mellon, Swarthmore, Smith, CUNY Honors programs, Cooper Union, Skidmore, SUNY Stony Brook--to name a few) are required to take the SAT II Subject tests in addition to SAT I Reasoning Test. December 5 is the last opportunity for your SATs to qualify for college application deadlines of January 1, 2010 or earlier; registration deadline was October 30. Students should come to the College Office, room 239 for a fee waiver, and for assistance with registration. More info is available online at www.collegeboard.com.
College reps are scheduled to visit LoMA:Marymount Manhattan College on Thursday, November 19 at 1:20 pm. More colleges have expressed interest and dates are being set; we also have college trips planned for Columbus weekend, Election Day, and other dates. Info will follow as it is finalized.
More than twenty of our seniors are getting a preview of college through the College Now program on the John Jay campus of City University. LoMA students are enrolled in courses such as Sociology, Criminal Justice, Anthropology, and more.
The College and Internship office and our CBO partners are excited to work with the class of 2010. The staff listed below are available to help students and parents with the college application process. One request to parents: please provide us with proof of income for 2009 as soon as possible; this helps us to identify which college admissions opportunity programs and scholarships your child will qualify for. Without documentation we lack the necessary information for accurate college guidance. If you have any questions, please call us at 212-505-0143x239.
